If any of you listen to Against Me, what do you think of their new album? I don't like it nearly as much as their older stuff. I see to be alone on that though.
Maybe it'll grow on me...but I don't know.

I heard one song off the new album and decided that it was fun while it lasted. It's great that they are getting really popular and not compromising their beliefs, but it just isn't the same.

man, the new album just sucks. sounds like franz ferdinand, and the lyrics just rip on their fans (or wait, "fans") the entire time. lame. they are being honest with moving up in the ranks, but they're blowing out people that really looked up to them and compromising their positions with lame excuses ("i was seventeen! who cares?"). meh.
oh, and the new lyrics suck.

anarchist singalong punk type deal. had some tapes, a couple really badly recorded 12"s/7"s. did an album that a lot of people loved on no idea. signed to fat. backlash. put out an okay album on fat. didn't get a ton of attention. somewhere along there they blew up. new album on fat. headlining the fat records tour. people all over their genitals. almost got signed to a couple different majors, but stuck with fat. gets more attention and promotion there than they probably would at sony. it's weird.

Their new album is awesome, ripping on it is just the scene thing to do because they're on fat wreck. They're ripping on the fans cause they're sick of fucking "punkers" slashing their van tires for "selling out" at shows and talking shit to them without having ever been in the music business. If you had people say shit like "man, it was better in the basements" 800 times a tour to you, you'd have some shit to say in your songs too.
If you wanna say the new album sounds like Franz Ferdinand and the lyrics suck it sounds like the only shit you've listened to off it is Don't Lose Touch, the lyrics of which are good if you pay attention. From her lips to god's ears is one of the best AM! songs around.
I've been listening to them since right when Reinventing Axl Rose came out, seen 'em live six times, better each and every time.

nah, i listened to the whole thing. "violence" is terrible. i'm not saying they sold out for fat wreck. i love as the eternal cowboy, i thought it was great. fat wreck has propagandhi and d4. d4 alone are gods in every way. they need to make attacks elsewhere, not in their music. kids are idiots, especially psuedo crusty kids that attack bands they want to support. but it's not right for the band to get back at them in lyrics and make everyone else deal with it.
the whole appeal of against me! is that its optimistic, youthful, and has the energy that people have burned out on. i think MRR said that the new album just wasn't very good because it was ironic and spiteful. i mean, i am too, but i don't want to hear that in am!. they're supposed to be there to charge you to do new things politics revolution blah blah blah blah blah. you get the point.
i learned a long time ago that bands are gonna let you down eventually, so don't get all fan boy about it. people change, music changes. to me, the last two albums they put are good. looking at them in a seperate light, they still are. the band changed, time to move on for me.

Yeah but that's the thing. They are not there to charge you, they are there to make music they want to make, and if it happens that we as fans enjoy it, that's awesome, if not then move on as you said. I think alot of people forget that these bands don't form to make them(the listeners) happy, they form cause some dudes wanna make music and enjoy themselves. If Tom's position in his life has changed where he's no longer up for happy and upbeat with anarcho-politics but instead has some issues in his own head to discuss, it would be fake for him to try and continue writing songs like "we laugh at danger(and break all the rules)". I personally enjoy a little variety and am glad they've sprung off with something a little different.

I heard a new song, Miami maybe? and it sounded like Tim Nekroman was fronting the band. Way to produced and un-Against Me!. Yes bands go through changes but this is where its time to me to pass the torch. I know in some way I can blame it on Warren, his beard probably. Anyways I turned down seeing them Monday because I knew it wouldnt be like the last show I saw of theirs. Up the punx.

i think the new album is pretty good, and theyre some of the nicest people ive ever met, however, some of their actions in the past couple months really make me think twice about their ethics and mindset of where they stand. i kind of thought the video was a fluke, as ive never seen another fatwreck video on mtv, (less than jake?), but their inclusion on the myspace records album is what really confuses the hell out of me. for a band that for the past five or so years has been speaking out against things of that nature, it just boggles my mind to think of why they would allow themselves to be put on the record. fat mike, perhaps?
